Many business owners spend a great deal of time worrying about content. They feel that creating consistent and engaging content for marketing purposes is practically impossible. They look at this as a genuine hurdle to overcome, and for many it is. On the flip side, some business owners think it’s going to be simple to create content and they are often dead wrong.
Getting the right content out and on the Internet is a lot more complex than you might think. But it’s also easier than you might think as well. It all depends on the school of thought that you have about content creation.
With that in mind, we are going to discuss four content marketing myths below today. You’ll learn real-world strategies of how to overcome these myths when all is said and done.
Myth #1: Content Creation Is Easy!
The business owner or blogger that is creating content with this thought in mind feels that they are going to be able to easily pull content ideas out of thin air. But the reality is that it’s difficult to quickly come up with excellent content ideas out of nowhere. It just doesn’t really happen.
Truthfully, in order to create great content you need a road map to make this happen. You need to know the right practices that will allow you to regularly produce content that grabs people’s attention over and over again.
The road map includes:
• Content strategy – What are you going to talk about? How are you going to highlight your unique experience? How you going to support others with your content? Do you know what your audience wants? Do you know you what your audience needs? Is there a way to meet these wants and needs to your audience via your content?
• Knowledge of what good content is – good content is thoughtful, thought-provoking, insightful, entertaining, useful and engaging.
• Create and communicate ideas – you can do this verbally, written, through video or any other way that you choose. Just make sure that it’s relevant to your audience.
Myth #2: Content Creation Is so Hard!
This myth is on the opposite side of the coin of our first myth. Most people either come from one of two camps. They think content creation is going to be easy, and then learn that it’s a lot harder than it looks. Or they feel that it is going to be practically impossible, only to finally sit down to create content and learn that it was a lot easier than they initially thought.
For some reason, business owners like to believe that they do not have anything to say. But you know as well as we do that this is false and totally untruthful. You have a lot to say about your business and you know a lot about your industry. You wouldn’t be a part of it otherwise.
So start thinking about your content from the perspective of your experience. Do customers commonly ask you specific questions? Write content about that. This is what your customers want to know, so give it to them. Always give your audience exactly what they want and they’ll keep coming back for more.
Myth #3: Re-purposing Content Is Simple
Effective content re-purposing is a lot more than just copy and pasting information from your business computer files and putting them on a blog. In order to have of effective content, you have to shape it and do a little bit of heavy lifting.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with re-purposing content. There’s no reason to reinvent the wheel if you do not have to. Just make sure that you change it around enough so that it is unique, and also make sure that it is compelling so that your readers will enjoy it and find it entertaining.
Myth #4: Content Marketing Doesn’t Work Anymore
This is the biggest fallacy of them all. As a matter of fact, content marketing and proper syndication will take you farther online than any other marketing method at this point. Not only will you build a great reputation for powerful content, but the social sharing aspects will provide powerful back links pointing to your site that will allow you to rank highly in Google.
