I have a quick question for you: If you are looking for a service or want to find a product that you would like to buy, or have a problem you want to solve, what is the very first thing you do?
If you are like more than 80% of the population you go straight to Google, Yahoo or Bing and now You Tube.
So, if you use a search engine such as Google or You Tube, what do you think your customers do?
My next question, when you key in your search query, say into Google, when the Google page appears how many of those businesses to do you look at?
Do you open the first link and contact that business, or do you open the first 2 or 3 and click through to those businesses so you can make a comparison.
Are you some-one who checks out all the businesses on the first page? Or are you someone who actually goes to page two of Google?
Did you know that research shows that the number one spot in Google gets a massive 40% of all the traffic for a particular search term. Traffic just means when someone clicks on the link on Google to go through to a website.
In fact, the 10 listings on page one get an incredible 95% of all traffic. Which means that almost nobody gets to page two and beyond.
Another question: When you see a business on the first page of Google, do you think that perhaps this is a great business because Google has given them first page status: I know I used to. It really is fantastic social proof being at the top.
But of course I know better now, the only reason they are at the top of Google is because they have been clever enough to implement all the right strategies to get them there. They might be a complete dud of a business
Who is at the top in your industry? I am guessing that it isn’t you, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this page. What do you think of the business that is there? Do you think that you are way better than they are, you look after your customers better, offer a better quality product or superior service.
So if you aren’t on the first page of Google you are missing out on 80% of your potential customers even finding you. If they can’t find you, you don’t exist.
They go to your competitors. I know this is unfair given you probably run a better business, but this is the world we live in now.
These days so many more potential customers are searching on smart phones and iPads, so being at the top of Google and You Tube is only going to get more important.
We would love to help you. Of course, we would love to personally get your website to the top of Google so that you can tap into those 80% of potential customers.
However, If you are not quite ready or not sure, there are a number of steps that you can take right now that will both dramatically improve your chances of getting to the top of Google and therefore being found by people who have never heard of your business. There are also a number of things that you can do to convert the potential customers who do currently find your website.
The Streamshare Digital Marketing team look at websites all day long and never cease to be amazed at how bad they are. It is easy to see why these websites don’t rank and don’t convert.
